After being leaked quite some time ago by EASports, the Calgary Flames have released their new third jersey yesterday at the Saddledome.

When I originally wrote the blog about a month ago, most were not too impressed with the potential leaked images of said jersey and it appears that they were in fact accurate with no changes made despite many displeased fans.

Personally, I don’t mind the jerseys. They do appear very simplistic but it’s intention is to represent Calgary and as such, the players will wear the city name with pride. There could be a few refinements made to make it a little better perhaps, but overall it’s not as bad as some fans are making it out to be in my humble opinion.

Here is the jersey, for those who have not seen it yet.

What do you guys think of the new jerseys?

On Saturday night, the Flames took on the Washington Capitals with what ended in a dominant match for the home team. Able to completely shut down Alex Ovechkin during the game, Calgary was able to keep shots against Ramo to a minimum in the first period as they came out with speed and tons of shots of their own. Scoring three goals in the first period, the Flames were off to a good start which was much needed after a somewhat disappointing road trip.

“I thought it was nice for us to come out with a high energy start,” said Cammalleri.“(We) just came off a nine or 10-day road trip, quite a lot of travel and I thought it was a testament to the group’s will to win the way that we were able to get going off the start.”

After going 1-4-0 during their road trip, a big win was needed to raise the spirits of the team. Karri Ramo, for me, had another solid performance as the netminder made a few key saves which allowed his team to turn around and put up a goal of their own. As mentioned, the Flames took a commanding first period lead over the Capitals, and Mike Cammalleri came out big for the group with three points for the night.

Starting the night with a few new line mates due to more injuries, the Flames would find the back of the net five times for the night, despite missing Lee Stempniak and Mark Giordano who are atop the teams stats in terms of scoring. Both Stempniak and Giordano were seen wearing protective boots on their feet yesterday and appear to have been moved to the injured reserve list. How long either will be out for at this time is unknown.

Without a few regular vets it would be those left over who came up big for Calgary. With Mike Cammalleri scoring two goals and Curtis Glencross notching one of his own, the Flames received some scoring from guys who weren’t exactly “around” for the start of the year.

For me, I liked how Kris Russel and Joe Colborne played. Both new players had good games and provided just what was needed of them for their team’s win. Colborne who was a slow starter with Calgary, has managed to find success in his game which has resulted in three points in his last six games and also sits at plus-3.

"[Joe Colborne] did a great job on the faceoff and I was going to try and get the puck to the net for those guys to bang it in," Cammalleri said. "They were both driving the net. It makes it dangerous for the goalie. He's worried about big [Colborne] coming to the net and [Galiardi]'s speed coming to the net and the puck ends up finding its way in."

The Flames will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night for their second home game since returning from their road trip.

That’s all for today folks, thanks for reading!
