The St. Louis Blues are a team that will not give up. The Blues had a 2-0 lead after the first period, but the Hawks would eventually come back and take a 3-2 lead as the Blues took their foot off the pedal.
The story of this game will the head-hunting hit from Brent Seabrook on Blues captain David Backes.
Backes was behind the net, the puck about ten feet away from him, and Seabrook came flying in and delivered a shoulder to the head of Backes. Seabrook targets the head, making it the principle point of contact, and he left his feet on the hit.
Backes was clearly out for a few seconds, and he eventually got back up to try and go after Seabrook. It certainly doesn't look good for Backes, who was very unsteady on his feet. No doubt he's injured, but the big question has to be the extent of the injury. Does he have a concussion? How long will he be out?
The next question has to be how long will Brent Seabrook be out of the line up? He was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for charging, and no doubt the hit is suspendable. Many believe, including myself, that Seabrook shouldn't touch the ice the rest of this series. If I had to guess, I would say four games. It could be more and very well could be less.
The Blues, who were 0-8 on their PP up until the point of the hit. The Blues had a PP until the end of regulation, and with just 6.4 seconds left, Vladimir Tarasenko fired a shot past Corey Crawford to take the game into overtime.
The Blues controlled the majority of play in the overtime, and this time, it wouldn't last long. With 14:10 remaining in overtime, Barret Jackman fired a slap-shot past Crawford to get the huge win to take a 2-0 series lead in the series.
Ryan Miller was solid again tonight, stopping 25-of-28, and two of them were deflections of the stick of Chris Porter and the arm of David Backes. He made quite a few key saves to keep the Blues in it, and will be looked upon to do much of the same as the series continues.
The Blues and Hawks will now head to Chicago with a HUGE lead in the series, and they will look to add to their series lead.
With Backes likely out for game three, and Seabrook almost for sure to be out of the line up as well, the Blues will look to their reserve, hoping for the return of injured center, Patrik Berglund. If Berglund isn't ready to play, you'll likely see Brendan Morrow return to the line up.
