Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost.
Interesting stuff coming out of the league's newly-designed Competition Committee, which has recommended a series of proposed changes to the league for further review. The proposed changes come five hours after Michael Cammalleri, Daniel Winnik, Ron Hainsey, Kevin Shattenkirk, Ed Snider, David Poile, Ken Holland, Don Maloney, and Peter Chiarelli met on Monday afternoon.
Some of the recommended changes are as follows:
* = A "coach's challenge" that would allow coaches to, in the event that they are still in possession of their timeout, challenge a ruling on the ice (e.g. puck over glass, kicked pucks, etc.);
* = Changing sides in overtime to increase scoring prior to sending the game to shootout;
* = Expansion of the trapezoid by two feet on both sides, allowing goaltenders to play the puck more frequently;
* = For faceoffs, movement towards the IIHF hashmarks (wider than present-day NHL standards);
* = Only one center allowed to take draws after icing calls, in an attempt to remove the delay strategy of purposefully committing a faceoff violation to buy time for tired players on the ice;
Per Colin Campbell via Elliotte Friedman, the Competition Committee also discussed potential tweaks concerning goaltender interference (and perhaps combating tough on-ice decisions through video review). They also discussed the embellishment problem:
Like the recommended changes?
