On Wednesday morning, Jason Garrison appeared on TEAM1040 to talk about his surprise trade to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
If you don't want to listen to the whole interview,

Though Garrison says he's excited to be joining a team with the skill level of the Tampa Bay Lightning, he sounds mighty disappointed to be leaving his friends and family behind here in Vancouver:
My family had a blast and they came to all of the games, obviously watched on TV. Just a lot of support. It brings everybody a little closer together when they can all rally behind something. It was a lot of fun. They understand the business part of it. They were heartbroken a bit, but they've kind of wrapped their arms around it now and it's kind of going back to how it used to be when I stayed for the summers and go away for the season.
We'll see Garrison early in the season: Tampa Bay plays Vancouver on October 18 at Rogers Arena.
Update on Gino:
It's been a couple of weeks since we checked in on Gino Odjick. I was happy to see some activity on his Twitter this week, mostly retweets of words of support in his battle against his disease.
Gino's home base, the Musqueam Golf Course, is doing its bit:
It's also great to hear that Gino's hometown of Maniwaki, Quebec will be renaming its hockey arena in Gino's honour.

The ceremony in Maniwaki is scheduled for this Saturday, with plans for Gino to appear via videoconference.
If you missed it, B.C. Booklook published a terrific profile of Gino that was excerpted from Katherine Gordon's "We Are Born With the Songs Inside Us," a profile of First Nations people in British Columbia. In addition to covering the well-known aspects of Gino's life, Gordon also dives into Gino's passion for reading and his community involvement since leaving the hockey world. I had no idea that he was a bookworm!

New Book to Chronicle Canucks Rise and Fall:
Speaking of books, I came across
this announcement yesterday.
Veteran Canadian hockey writer Bruce Dowbiggin has written "Ice Storm: The Rise and Fall of the Greatest Vancouver Canucks Team Ever." No date is set yet for publication, but with all the detail now up on the Greystone Books website, I'd assume we can expect it in time for the Christmas season.
Here are some pieces of the synopsis:
In 2008, the Vancouver Canucks were Team Modern, revolutionizing the NHL under their new GM, former player agent Mike Gillis. Cool, calculating, and unsparing with the media, the onetime number one draft pick of the old Colorado Rockies swept away the tangled psychological past of the Canucks with bold innovation, remodeling Vancouver as a destination city for NHL star players. To do so, he built the Canucks from a non-playoff team in 2008 to the best in hockey from 2010-2012...
But things changed...
In spring 2014, tried-and-true Canuck hero Trevor Linden was installed as president, with former teammate Jim Benning by his side as GM. No one was quite sure if this was an improvement, but at least the hysterical screaming had stopped.
How did it happen? Ice Storm follows the journey that led the Canucks from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the abyss in six short years.
It'll be interesting to see if the Canucks have begun their climb back to respectability by the time this book hits the shelves.
