Vancouver Canucks: Is Ryan Miller As Good As His Record Indicates?

It's a quiet weekend in Canuck-land.

The team is off today. Yesterday, they participated only in off-ice workouts, as well as hosting season ticket holders for a meet and greet event.

Let us know if you attended, and the scope of the activities. From what I've seen, the highlight was a fan who allowed his young child to be autographed. See this post from Puck Daddy to check it out.

More active engagement with the fans seems like it is a hallmark of the Trevor Linden era. In addition to this event, the team is holding its annual open practice next weekend, ahead of the Chicago game.

I was also interested to read this quote from Willie Desjardins on the decision to return Nicklas Jensen to Utica:

He played pretty well. Was he our 12th forward? No, he wasn’t. But when you’re coming in, you have to be better than guys. You can’t be just as good, you have to be better to take guys’ spots. He was good but I don’t think he showed that we can’t possibly send him down. When you come up, you have to be where, like, there is no way we can send that guy down because that makes a difference between us winning and losing. So was he good? Yeah, he was good but I think maybe next time he comes up, he’ll be more (advanced) that he’s going to come to stay.

Even as Willie remains complimentary, he makes it clear that he'll need to see even more from Jensen if he hopes to stick with the big club.

One more link for your Sunday morning coffee. Over at The Score, Thomas Drance is arguing that despite Ryan Miller's 11-3 record, his play has actually been pretty ordinary since joining the Canucks.

That .902 save percentage is a pretty troubling number. A goals-against average of 2.65 is nothing to write home about, either, though that number is obviously skewed by the fact that all three of Miller's losses so far have been blowouts (though not of the old Roberto Luongo eight-goal variety).

It's hard to wrap my brain around the idea that a good part of the Canucks' early-season success has come from strong offense. Vancouver's ranked seventh overall in goals for, but 20th in goals against.
