I was watching some of the Flyers/Canes game last night. Nice tight shot during the warm-up of Biron's eyes, just like a wolf. It's like he borrowed Alex Pierson's contact lenses or for those of you outside of Toronto, it was like he borrowed that guys contact lenses from that Gary Busey classic Silver Bullet. Which I believe was banned in Norway. We'll check in with Espen Knutsen on that one.
Back to the game. Carolina had a most non-triumphant two game road trip. Two goals for, eleven against. Eleven only works for Spinal Tap. Now the Canes get a quick breather before they entertain the Lightning on Friday. In order for Carolina to get back on track they need to do three things, score more, give up less and ask themselves one question? what would Brian Boitano do. Yes, great sound wisdom. It starts from the net out. Cam Ward needs to put on a clinic tomorrow against Vinny and St. Louis and friends.
Eight games tonight, six in the west. For us in the east, Toronto at Atlanta. The Thrashers have dropped three in a row. Does that make them in a slump or make them due for a win? After going undefeated in eight straight against the Thrashers, Toronto has dropped the last two. Mind you the last loss was four months ago. A lot has happened since then. Toronto fans have grown to love Andrew Raycroft and the rest of the NHL's fans have an appreciation for the play of Darcy Tucker. I like the Leafs tonight if they have a four goal lead at some point in third period, other than that, it'll be a coin toss in the point allocation department. Write that down.
Only other eastern game, Pittsburgh at Boston. You have to think that Joey will get the start in net. The Happy Feet's are looking to hit the century mark in points and temporarily leap over the Senators for fourth. That looks like a first round series in the making, just where will it begin? In Ottawa or in Pittsburgh. What we do know, it won't be Kansas City.
Calgary is in Minnesota again. Just like Tuesday. Why the day off in-between? That makes no sense. Neither team played on Monday, they could have played last night. I guess the Minnesota tourist board picked up some coin from the Flames yesterday. I know it happens often in the new-NHL that you play a team twice in the same rink with a vacation day in-between. The extra day in the hotel must cut into league wide revenue. After tying 0-0 through 65 minutes on Tuesday, how about 4-4 through the same time frame tonight?

60 years ago today the Leafs receive their second worst playoff beating in club history when they lose 9-1 at home to Detroit. Roy Conacher and Billy Taylor pick up five points each for Detroit. Detroit lead 3-1 going into the third period. Gordie Howe had no points in the game. Nick Metz scores the lone goal for Toronto. The win evened the series at one. Detroit would not win another game in the series, scoring just one goal in each of the last three games. After the 9-1 loss, Leafs boss Conn Smythe said "If you can make it to Detroit you'll see a different team, we didn't take one penalty tonight after it was 3-1, how are you going to win a game playing like that, no penalties, we let them push us around, and we did nothing about it"
Amazing, a coach encouraging his team to take penalties. That's old time hockey. Did they have foil back in 47?
Trivia
Who handed the Leafs their worst playoff loss of 11-0? answer below.
Little Known Fact
Roy Conacher had eight points in the five game series against Toronto, it would be the last playoff points of his career. It was the only season he played for the Red Wings. Conacher was traded to the Rangers on Oct. 22, 1947, he refused to go and the trade was void. A week later he was traded to Chicago where he would win the Art Ross trophy in 1949.

I like Donald Trump he makes me laugh and obviously he's a very good business man. What I find offside and this is no shot at Trump are the people who slap down money for these things. This past weekend, The Donald was in Toronto to teach people secrets on how to become millionaires. Trump brought a couple of friends with him, Tony Robbins and Richard Branson. 30,000 people flocked from far and wide to buy tickets for this weekend event, some even wore Trump style suits. I'm going to let everyone in on a big secret on how to make a lot of money. Sell 30,000 tickets at $200+ each to a seminar on how to make money. That's the key. That's it, no big secret. Just find enough people to smackdown $200 each and well if you can find 30,000 people then cha-ching, that's a lot of money. It's more marketing then anything else, that's the secret to making money, write that down.
