Sabres have issued this statementment on Ristolainen and McCormick.

The Buffalo Sabres today announced defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen will miss the first 7-10 days of the team’s training camp with an upper-body injury. The third-year defenseman is coming off his first full NHL season, a year in which he led all Sabres defensemen in games played (78), goals (8), assists (12) and points (20).

In addition, forward Cody McCormick did not pass his training camp physical and is out indefinitely. McCormick appeared in 33 games for the Sabres in 2014-15, his fifth season with the team.

The Sabres opened training camp on Thursday and began on-ice activity this morning.

Head coach Dan Bylsma will not address media until the end of the on-ice segments.

That's when he will address the Ristolainen issue and give his overall remarks on Day 1 events.

Here are my quick takes on the scrimmage:

* 9-90-63 line is wicked fast and are going to give NHL opponents night sweats with the awesome combination of pace, speed, skill, grindage and smarts. O'Reilly is a coach on the ice. He is constantly talking to his wingers and his D, giving instructions in all three zone. That type of leadership will spill all over the whole team.

* Jack Eichel competed hard in all three zones. The speed of the NHl scrimmage didn't seem to phase he and Johan Larsson had some epic battles in the faceoff circles. Eichel won more draws than he lost. He didn't suffer energy loss after Larsson would beat he hounded the puck and took it back.

Brendan Guhle skates faster than most NHL forwards do. Guhle and McCabe played with the Kane-ROR-Ennis trio. The kid was full value. Guhle is a Western league D-man who is impresses me more and more very time I watch him play. I would not be surprised if Dan Bylsma wants to keep him in camp for an extended look. Very strong. Great stick. Very smart and fast.

* Pat Kaleta was a tough customer in the scrimmage. Fast feet and faster hands. Nice effort.

* Jake McCabe was a beast in D for the winners. Strong in the slot and even stronger in the corners.

* Matt Donovan gave a great performance in the scrimmage. He wiped out Tim Schaller with a heavy check that shook up the Amerks forward. Donavan wants to win a job in Buffalo's top 7.

* Josh Chapman was not afraid to give the stick to O'Reilly and Kane line. Kid is ferocious.

* Cody Franson was a rock in his own end. His passing is so hard and accurate. Tape to tape. He showed me some nice jump when he joined the rush to support in the O-zone.

* Zemgus was strong down low and in the neutral zone. He found his way to the blue ice early and often.

* Justin Bailey, Nick Baptiste, Cal O'Reilly, and Evan Rodrigues did impressive things to my eyes.

Kane-Ryan O'Reilly-Tyler Ennis won the scrimmage 4-2.

ROR scored two beauties for the victors.

Pat Kaleta scored twice for the White squad, including a spiffy penalty shot.

It's Day1 of Buffalo Sabres training camp. The team is about to hit the ice for a scrimmage.

One playuer's name is not listed on the Day 1 roster and that is defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen.

It's not known right now what the young Finn is not listed on the roster. More will be known after the scrimmage.

In the meantime, here are your line trios and D pairs:

EKane-O'Reilly-Ennis
Moulson-Eichel-Zemgus
McGinn-Reonhart-Gionta
Deslauriers-Legwand-Foligno
