Tonight’s SlapShot Radio features an interview with the new CEO of the Nashville Predators Sean Henry and the TV Color Analyst for the Minnesota Wild, Mike Greenlay. Join us at 7pmn on 102.5 the Game.

After a couple of practices and an off day on the west coast, the Nashville Predators have a travel day today, taking off for Minnesota for their first Central Division matchup of the season. It is one of only four divisional matchups in the month of November’s 13 scheduled games… only four divisional games in the first 27 games. Nashville will make up for the dearth in divisional games starting on Dec. 8th when 7 of the next 11 will be inside the Central including a home and home against Chicago, two against St. Louis and single games against Colorado, Minnesota and Dallas, the Dallas game is a New Year’s Eve showdown in Big D.

The CMA Roadie has been an interesting roller coaster, a win over San Jose, an overtime loss to Los Angeles and a dismantling at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks have Pred Nation wondering. Three losses in four games and a tough one ahead of the team tomorrow night .

Let’s face it. Any club will take 7-2-2 in any 11 game stretch… and the next 11 have a decent combination of challenges (Wild x2, Blues, Jets, Ducks and Rangers) and ones that a cup contender should win (Senators, Maple Leafs, Blue Jackets, Sabres, Flyers) … going 7-2-2 in that stretch would solidify the Preds as a contender and would put the team right where they want to be at American Thanksgiving … in playoff position.

Plenty of work in practice over the past few days on special teams, faceoffs and offensive consistency. We will see how it pays off tomorrow night at Xcel Energy Center.

I want to remind you about an event coming up on November 9th at the Belcourt Theatre. I had the great honor of meeting the family of Mitchell Mielnik before the Predators / Lightning game a couple weeks back. Their son Carson was the Blueliner of the Game. Mike and Tara are going through a hell that most of us cannot imagine and they seem to be doing everything they can to get from one day to the next with grace… a grace that I am not sure, were I in that same position, that I could muster.

You may recall the name, Mitchell, a member of the Jr. Predators, passed away early this summer after a battle with a rather condition. You may recall the hashtags on Twitter #18Strong and #PrayforMitch.

Burying your child is something that no parent should ever have to do… but what makes it even harder to get over, is the seven figure medical bill that this family is dealing with. To help alleviate this, there is an event scheduled for Monday, November 9th at the Belcourt Theater in Hillsboro Village. “Play for Mitch – A Tribute to Mitchell MIelnik” will feature a reception, live auction, and music… lots of music from great artists like Emerson Drive and Sixwire. The reception and silent auction begin at 5:30pm… music gets going at 7:30pm… you can get tickets online… here is the link.

Random Notes

- This Saturday’s game against St. Louis is Nashville’s Hockey Fight’s Cancer Night.

- The NHL’s All-Star Fan Fair has been announced. The league will be taking over the Music City Center for four days at the end of January for over 250,000 square feet of hockey fun!

- The latest prospect report coming out of the Predators is showing one prospect lighting it up in the QMJHL. Anthony Richard has 27 points (13g, 14a) in 18 games for Val-D’Or. The NCAA season is just getting going and Jimmy Vesey is off to a solid start with four points in his first game of the season for Harvard.

- Yesterday was Election Day in many parts of the US and believe it or not, there’s a hockey connection… Islander fans on Long Island came out in droves and voted against the person they blame for losing the team to Brooklyn… I like it…

- St. Louis heads into Chicago tonight, after they lost to LA last night.

- Hear that sobbing sound from the northwest part of the continent? Connor McDavid continued his tradition of injuries in November. The Edmonton Oilers announced that the young superstar will be out “long term” with an upper body injury. The youngster was placed on long term injured reserve, leading to speculation of a broken collarbone.

- After a solid start… the jackals are already in force in Philly… four straight losses will do that.
