As I write this the second period has just ended, the Canadiens are up 3-0 (and it hasn't even been that close of a game) and the Pride of Princeton, Mike Condon, has just made maybe the best save in a Classic since Ryan Miller in the first Classic...
The Bruins are also missing some VERY big pieces in this game. No Krejci, no Marchand...means the B's are looking more like the rebuiding/project team many predicted prior to this campaign.
All that said, the Habs are the Habs again. They are moving their feet and flying. Their defense is playing with the kind of confidence that allows them to pinch more and carry the puck more...the kind of confidence they haven't shown since the great mistake eliminator, Carey Price, went down...
This Winter Classic could be just what the doctor ordered...
Also, how about the music when the Habs and Bruins entered? My son pointed out it was from Star Wars episode 1.. We thought it was the Podracer scene (in my opinion the best scene in any of the prequills) but we had the right movie....wrong scene. It was the battle between a young Ben Knobi and Darth Maul (who they NEVER should have killed off...he was a cool antagonist...)
Regardless....whoever said the first three Star Wars weren't cool....they had their moments...and cool music to say the least (and maybe the least expensive music of the series for the NHL to license.)
The Bruins may still come back and win this one, but the Habs are definitely back and could be poised to be the major factor they appeared to be a month ago...
Anyway.....back with more later...
As we have been discussing on the Podcast, Kevin Allen of USA Today had 6 former GM's/Players Draft Current NHLers into 6 original teams...Below you can watch Pierre McGuire's Montreal Canadiens face off against Craig Button's Bruins... More of these games on the way...oh by the way...Brendan Gallagher is on the Bruins, while Marchand and Bergevin are oddly enough Canadiens...
