The Calgary Flames explored each and every option in their search for a new head coach before eventually hiring Glen Gulutzan.

The next big item on the to-do list is finding a No. 1 goaltender and it appears Flames GM Brad Treliving will be just as diligent in this process.

The Flames have reportedly expressed interest in Anaheim Ducks' goaltender Frederik Andersen and they've also checked in with Pittsburgh regarding Marc-Andre Fleury, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.

Teams have already reached out to the Pittsburgh Penguins regarding goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, including Calgary, the Flames I think doing their diligence on all possibilities that are out there. Again, it's still not decided from the Penguins' perspective whether they make a goalie move this summer or wait another year but there's no question teams are monitoring that situation closely. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup with rookie goalie Matt Murray and have Jeff Zatkoff coming up as well. Fleury has a no-move clause and a partial no-trade.

While Fleury has a bad rep due to some underwhelming performances in the playoffs he is undoubtedly a No. 1 goaltender and would be a significant upgrade over what the Flames have had in recent years.

Fleury has posted a .920 save percentage or better in consecutive years and in that span owns a .928SV% at 5 v 5. That's good for 12th among 36 eligible goaltenders (minimum 3,000 5 v 5 minutes) and ranks him ahead of Tuukka Rask, Jonathan Quick, Ben Bishop and Frederik Andersen, among others.

The problem with Fleury is a) he has a big contract; b) he is in his 30s and; c) he has a history of concussions.

Again, there's no doubt Fleury would be an upgrade but a good case can be made that retaining assets and signing James Reimer, for example, would be a better route to take.
