The Calgary Flames have signed forward Linden Vey to a one-year, two-way contract in an effort to solidify the team's depth up front.
The 24-year-old is coming off a tough season with the Vancouver Canucks. He had just 15 points in 41 games and had to spent 26 games in Utica as a result of his struggles.
On top of his highly mediocre offensive numbers Vey also struggled mightily in possession. With Vey on the ice the Canucks controlled just 44.7% of the shot attempts while that number jumped to 47.5% when he was off the ice.
It's worth noting that only Bo Horvat started a higher percentage of his shifts in the defensive zone, however, Vey's numbers remain underwhelming.
In saying that Vey is just 24 years of age and has averaged 27 points per 82 games. Those are decent totals considering how he has been utilized throughout his career to date.
If he can contribute that's great. If not, he'll be a good player to have in Stockton. Either way there's not much downside to this signing.
