More praise for Weber & George Parros hired by the Dept. of Player Safety |

For better or worse, the World Cup of Hockey has provided further opportunity to discuss and dissect the P.K. Subban/Shea Weber trade. Every word spoken by the likes of Carey Price, Mike Babcock and others are endlessly analyzed and debated. In some ways it seems like we won’t be satisfied until we have heard from every teammate, current and former as well as important players and management from across the league. Perhaps an advantage is that it might be slightly less of a gongshow when Weber returns from the World Cup to the Canadiens. Oh wait, this is Montreal we’re talking about it…
The biggest takeaway after listening to the various interviews is that Habs fans should be very excited to see Weber in action this Fall in Montreal.
By all accounts, Weber has looked very good in Team Canada’s practices and this tournament will be an excellent opportunity for him to build chemistry with Price. His slapshot will be very welcome on the Canadiens roster and associate coach Kirk Muller is likely salivating at drawing up strategy to get those pucks on net. I don’t envy Brendan Gallagher standing in his office, on the edge of the opposing goaltender’s crease… Subban’s skill, electricity and the ability to lift fans out of their seats will certainly be missed by fans. However, fans will be jumping up from their seats each time Weber’s shot, the hardest in the NHL gets behind the goal line. At the very least, Habs fans should enjoy seeing Weber battle Brad Marchand when they play the Boston Bruins this season:
Preliminary action for the World Cup starts on Thursday. Habs fans can catch Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov and Alexei Emelin in action as the Czech Republic will face Russia in the first game at 12:30 PM EST on ESPN3, SN1, TVA Sports 2. On Friday, Team Canada will face Team USA in their first preliminary game of the tournament. It has been confirmed that Carey Price will get the start in goal for Canada and is expected to play the entire game. Fans will be holding their breath to see how Price holds up but by all indications he has healed and looks as good as ever on the ice.
In other news, former Montreal Canadiens player George Parros has been joined the NHL’s Department of Player Safety:
Many seem to pointing at the hypocrisy of hiring a former enforcer to be involved with the department. In reality, it is a brilliant hire by another former Canadiens, Stephane Quintal, the NHL senior vice-president of player safety. Parros played 474 games in the NHL and accumulated over 1,000 penalty minutes but not once did he ever cross line and get suspended or fined. Parros always played by the code and garnered much respect on and off the ice. It was only a matter of time before he would become involved again with hockey and this seems to be the perfect roll for him to get his feet wet.
Cheers & follow along!
