TSN’s Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun said on their Insider Trading segment on Thursday that the asking price for Colorado’s Matt Duchene is three or four significant assets, which include a young NHL roster player, prospects and high draft picks. Dreger indicates that the Montreal Canadiens are all-in this season and going after Duchene might make some sense.

As many as 10 teams have expressed interest in Coyotes center Martin Hanzal, but Arizona is playing the waiting game to see if they can exact a higher price for the pending UFA.

In Ottawa, teams are contacting the Senators about forward Curtis Lazar. The 22-year-old is still on his entry-level contract and is badly slumping this season, with just one assist in 28 games. The Sens are asking for a high price in return.

THE BUZZ – A deal requiring three or four pieces for Duchene is more conducive to one made over the summer instead of the deadline, but a team such as the Canadiens, who have a window of two or three years may be willing to mortgage some other future for a difference making top six forward.

The Habs would likely have to surrender one of their trio of young defensemen (Nathan Beaulieu, Noah Juulsen and Mikhail Sergachev) in a trade of this nature.

The high asking price is a risky proposition for Arizona GM John Chayka, since the reason that so many teams are interested is because there is only Arizona and Colorado are definite sellers. If teams such as Tampa Bay, Detroit and Buffalo fall out of the playoff race, they will be shopping their rentals and the demand for Hanzal could drop appreciably.

Ottawa is asking a high price for a 2013 first rounder at his absolute lowest value. Lazar would likely welcome a fresh start somewhere, but unless someone ponies up at least a second rounder, Sens GM Pierre Dorion will probably hold off and hope that the youngster bounces back.
