NHL Rumor Buzz is Hockeybuzz’s version of an aggregator blog, similar to Spectorshockey.net or MyNHLTradeRumors. It is the home for the latest NHL trade rumors from other mainstream sources and websites other than Hockeybuzz. It will include our thoughts on the rumor in question and will be updated each day as new rumors surface.

In Tuesday’s USA Today, Kevin Allen has Matt Duchene, Kevin Shattenkirk, Thomas Vanek, Ben Bishop, Shane Doan and Martin Hanzal on his “likely on the move” list, but other less mentioned names like Michael Stone, Patrick Eaves, Patrick Sharp, Radim Vrbata and Brian Boyle could also be deadline candidates.
THE BUZZ – The Coyotes are definitely shopping Stone, who has taken a step back from his 36-point output last season, but may be one of the few blueline options available. Vrbata is a low-price option for clubs looking for scoring help, but the veteran winger has an unusual bonus structure that may cool interest from contending clubs.
Eaves (having a career year with 19 goals) and Sharp (with three Stanley Cups) are attractive deadline additions, but their availability is conditional on Dallas falling out of the playoff race. Boyle could be an Plan B on teams that strike out on Martin Hanzal as a depth center, with his playoff experience in New York and Tampa.
TSN’s Darren Dreger speculates that there could be interest in demoted Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak, who has won six straight games with the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers and has a 2.03 GAA and .927 save percentage.
THE BUZZ – If he had an expiring contract, there might be teams that would have a lot of in Halak, who played great for Team Europe in the World Cup of Hockey last summer but struggled with the underachieving Islanders.
The problem is that Halak has another year left at a $4.5 Million cap hit. Unless a team like Calgary or Philadelphia (who have no NHL goalies under contract next season) are willing to roll the dice that Halak can be their starter for the next two years, it is unlikely that Garth Snow will find any takers.
