"PLUS/MINUS is the NHL's best stat, and the only one I use"
- Craig Button*
PLUS: Game Three. I don't really know if the Predators can win four of five to win the Stanley Cup, but I'd love to see it. Last night's game was a blast, and it's not like the Penguins are even that good of a team.
Without Kris Letang, and having to rely so much on M.A Fleury, I have to say I can't believe they're still playing, let alone winning.
PLUS: I like that Jonathan Toews spoke out about environmentalism. I even like how he tried to couch it so that people who don't agree won't hate him. Personally, I think every celebrity, athlete, writer, any person in power needs to speak out now.
If all the people who are disgusted by Trump, but aren't necessarily the kind to march, protest or write about it start speaking up, this can all be over. The silent majority is still just that.
Too often people with a voice won't say anything for fear of halving their audience. I think the time for that is past and we're not far from the point where silence makes you a collaborator by default.
MINUS: The worst thing about these playoffs is no Kris Letang. For everything the guy has gone through, it sucks to see his team go so far without him.
PLUS: With the Cup Final winding down, the real fun begins for those of us whose teams have been golfing for months now (seems like it anyways).
The expansion draft should make the off-season even more fun than usual.
PLUS: I thought this was cool
I made a top 50 albums list. Immediately thought of 20 I'd change, but still fun. pic.twitter.com/bCT24eLEOh
It's from topsters.net and you can select your top 50 of all time. After completing it I realized I'd left off Steve Earle, Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division and Prince, but what can you do?
Turns out 50 isn't that many
PLUS: Started reading Mason and Dixon by Thomas Pynchon - one of the coolest, most interesting books I've ever read.
PLUS: I took my kids to the drive in, and we saw the Adventures of Captain Underpants if you enjoy fart-jokes, this is definitely the movie for you. I thought it was way less sappy and way less annoying than most kid's movies, of which I have seen every single one. Ten times. Double Plus: No Singing.
MINUS: The second movie was Fast and Furious 98 so we went home.
MINUS: We really need to stop asking people if they believe in global warming. I've never heard a reporter ask a politician if they believe the earth is round, and it's the same damn thing.
As John Oliver once said, we might as well ask people "Are there hats? Do Owls exist?"
PLUS: The Blue Jays started like 15 games under .500, half their team got injured and their triple A team made a great comeback to save the season.
That's pretty cool.
PLUS: If Jordan Eberle is available. He could have been traded for a gold mine a couple years ago, but of course Chiarelli will trade him now that his value has never been lower. Reminds me of Ales Hemsky. Typical Oilers.
MINUS: Leafs fans make too big a deal about their (supposedly) bad defense core. The Leafs were a better team this year than the Flames, and the Flames dressed Hamilton, Brodie and Giordano on the blueline.
Defense is nice, but a good goalie and strength down the middle will get you far.
MINUS: Which is why there being so much resistance to putting Nylander at C is weird. Why would you pass on having the best 1-2-3 centre combo in the NHL?
PLUS: Somebody is going to buy low on Matt Duchene and reap a crap-load of benefits
MINUS: Calling Nashville Smashville.
MINUS: I know he's not going to advertise that he's going to lose on purpose, but if George McPhee is actually serious about contending right away, he's the wrong guy for the job.
The Knights have the perfect situation in which to immediately tank. The nature of Vegas is that it's 100% out-of-towners going to games, and the Casinos will buy up most of the tickets anyways. Why even attempt to win a single game? Tank for three years, get three top-five picks (in addition to this years pick) and then be good for a decade and build your fan base with a quality team once the novelty is worn off.
