UPDATE: Josh Ho-Sang will play in place in of Cal Clutterbuck (lower body). Scott Mayfeld will replace Dennis Seidenberg.
The Islanders quickly get back on the ice after last night's disastrous opening game in Columbus as they open up their home schedule against the Buffalo Sabres.
The damn canon fired five times last night as New York suffered their worst opening-night loss since the Washington Capitals blew them out 6-1 in 2003.
The Islanders, most notably, Calvin de Haan, had two costly plays that resulted in Blue Jackets goals. “Just bonehead plays and that’s not like Calvin,” head coach Doug Weight told Newsday. “The first he’s got to hustle back and give Greisser a target. And the second, they’re in a 1-1-3 [structure], we know what they’re doing and he just doesn’t move his feet.”
Weight promised changes following the game. Josh Ho-Sang, who was scratched for the game, will likely play. Defensively, it could be a number of players. Dennis Seidenberg, who was a -3 last night, is a candidate for the press box. If Weight was serious about benching veterans who were underperforming then de Haan could be on a short leash.
Jaroslav Halak, who replaced Thomas Greiss halfway through the 2nd period will get the start.
