One of the few bright spots for the Buffalo Sabres was their come from behind 5-4 overtime win in Boston back in October. The Sabres were 1-5-2 heading into that game and found themselves down by three goals twice. With the Sabres down 4-1, Boston native Jack Eichel closed the gap with 3:53 left in the second period and Benoit Pouliot made it 4-3 early in the third period. With 2:08 left in the third period, Evander Kane tipped a shot through the legs of Bruins goalie Anton Khudobin to tie the score at four and send it to overtime.
In the extra session, Buffalo's Ryan O'Reilly scored on a beautiful individual effort to win it for Buffalo:
(thx, Sabres)
Buffalo has had nothing but trouble with the Bruins as of late. They're 3-5-3 in their last 10 vs. the B's, and are only 2-6-2 at home. They went winless against Boston last season, which included a home-and-home to finish off the 2016 calendar year when they had an opportunity to climb back into the playoff race. Prior to they're October win, the last time the Sabres beat the Bruins was December 26, 2015 in Eichel's coming out party in Boston.
Buffalo trailed 3-1 in the final period then exploded for five unanswered goals with Eichel scoring two of them. He also added two assists to give him a four-point night. Eichel is coming off of another four-point game, which featured the first hat trick of his young career, against Carolina last Friday.
Head coach Phil Housley's Sabres team is getting healthier and he mixed up the lineup some. The projected lines for tonight are:
Kane-Eichel-Pominville
Pouliot-O'Reilly-Okposo
Nolan-Josefson-Rodrigues
Girgensons-Larsson-Reinhart
On defense the pairings are:
Scandella-Ristolainen
Beaulieu-Bogosian
McCabe-Antipin
Robin Lehner looks to be the starter in goal.
Tonight's game is on NBCSN.
