A.J. Greer will replace
Sven Andrighetto (lower-body injury) in the lineup Tuesday when the Avalanche play Winnipeg at the Pepsi Center.
Coach
Jared Bednar said Andrighetto's status is day-to-day. He was injured in the third period Sunday against the New York Islanders.
Here are the
GAME NOTES.
Greer, 21, will take Andrighetto's place at left wing on a line with
Alexander Kerfoot and
Nail Yakupov. He was recalled Monday from San Antonio of the AHL, where he had six goals and four assists in 16 games.
"I have high expectations for him," Bednar said after the morning skate. "He has been up here on numerous occasions, and we like what he has done over short periods of time. He gives us a little physical presence, a little sandpaper up there, but he has the skill to be able to make plays and support those guys.
"He is a guy who goes to the net hard in the American League, he has done it here, like I said, for short stints. Big, physical body, so we look for him to be a positive contributor on that line."
Greer, who is 6-feet-3 and 204 pounds, played six games with the Avalanche earlier this season and had one assist. He sustained a concussion in a fight with Dallas'
Greg Pateryn in a Sept. 21 preseason game.
"I need to bring some physical play but also some offensive ability," he said. "I know I can put the puck in the net, I know I can play offensive and also be responsible defensively, just play an all-around solid game.
"Beginning of the season I just came from back a concussion and I hadn't played much, so I was just trying to do the simple things. Now that I've had some time with San Antonio, I played big minutes and I had an offensive role.
"For me, it's to bring that here and also to play physical, be a power forward, play with the puck more and help my linemates get some offensive opportunities."
Semyon Varlamov will start for the Avalanche (19-16-3), who have won two games in a row and are 7-3-1 in their past 11 games. Varlamov has gone 4-1-1 in his past six games, allowing 13 goals.
The Jets (23-11-6) have won three in a row and lead the Central Division. Goalie
Connor Hellebuyck has won three in a row with a 1.67 goals-against average and .952 save percentage in the streak. He's 5-0-1 in his past six games.
Defenseman
Dustin Byfuglien will play after missing the past 10 games because of a lower-body injury.
