Senators upended by Coyotes 2-1 |

Opposite to the win in Vegas Friday night, the Senators got a very solid goaltending performance from Mike Condon, who stopped 25 of 27 shots against, but the Senators couldn't solve Antti Raanta the way they got to Marc-Andre Fleruy and as a result the Sens win "streak" ended at 1.
Raanta has been one of the top goalies in the league over the past couple of months, and showed why on Saturday although he didn't exactly face a barrage of shots (24 to be exact).
Condon got beat glove-side by Oliver Ekman-Larsson after a nice curl-and-drag move around his countryman Erik Karlsson, and then later in the game on a point blank one-timer from Jordan Martinook, who apparently has the superpower of invisibility given the fact that he was all alone five feet from the top of the crease without a Senators defender in sight to mark him in the most dangerous area on the ice.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau had the lone Senators goal, a tip-in at the lip of the crease set up by Bobby Ryan and Mark Stone, the latter of whom extended his point streak to 8 games as he continues to be the straw that stirs the Senators' drink and has been their best player by far this season. It was his 40th assist and 60th point of the season, to go along with his 20th goal on Friday night.
Karlsson was -2 on the night and reached the dubious milestone of -30 on the season, which coincidentally was where he finished his career-worst, the last time Ottawa went into retool mode, the 2010-11 season.
I don't know about you, but I questioned the intent of the Senators to actually come back and win this one, as with less than two minutes left they had a line consisting of Tom Pyatt and Alex Burrows along with Zack Smith while needing a goal. Then again, if you are saving Stone, Ryan, Pageau, Mike Hoffman and Matt Duchene for a last minute push with the goalie out, I guess that is what is left at Guy Boucher's disposal other than Ryan Dzingel.
Arizona still sits in dead last in the NHL, but reached the 50 point mark with the win and if they aren't careful they will pass the Sabres (51) and Senators (54) before too long if they continue their solid play. Led by Raanta they have won 8 of their last 11 games.
Ottawa will be looking for to even up their four game road trip with win in Dallas Monday night.
