The Florida Panthers have stated publicly that they're looking to make a big splash in the off-season. This is the ninth-part of a league-wide search for great potential trading partners for the Panthers. Today we will look at the New York Islanders.
If you missed some of the previous teams you can find them here...
Edmonton Oilers
New York Rangers
Chicago Blackhawks
Vancouver Canucks
Detroit Red Wings
Armed with a new general manager in Lou Lamoriello, the New York Islanders will assuredly be looking to make big changes in the upcoming months. Obviously, Islanders captain and franchise center John Tavares takes precedence as he becomes a free agent on July 1. While it's widely believed that the Isles will be looking to acquire an upgrade in goal, the Panthers don't have the luxury of having a goalie they can trade at the moment.
The problem with making a deal with the New York Islanders is that they need most of the same types of assets as the Florida Panthers. However, one player who has underwhelmed for the Islanders is winger Shane Prince. After 18 points in 50 games in 2016-17, Prince only played 14 games (due to injury) for the Islanders this last season and had one goal and one assist.
It was only three years ago that Prince tore up the American Hockey League with 65 points in 72 games for the Binghamton Senators. AHL numbers don't always translate but it's possible that put into the right role he could succeed in a limited role. He's an RFA and with his struggles and recent injuries, he wouldn't cost the Panthers a lot in terms of assets or dollars.
Shane Prince is the type of player that teams give up a fourth-round pick to acquire and see if he's a fit. It's not the sexiest trade in our series, but sometimes these small trades can have a huge impact.

3rd or 4th round pick in 2019
This trade gives the Islanders the ability to cut loose a player that has consistently disappointed and focus their dollars elsewhere. The Panthers would get the depth at wing that they need in order to sustain their lineup if an injury were to occur.
Next up, Carolina Hurricanes!
