Development camp, preseason slate announced |

The Detroit Red Wings are bringing the kids home. After several years of holding their summer development camp in Traverse City, the Wings will play host to this year’s camp at their Belfor Training Center adjacent to their new home at Little Caesars Arena.
The camp, with the vast majority of the club’s top prospects in attendance, will begin on June 26 and will feature on-ice skill development and off-ice workouts each day, including a scrimmage, and will run through June 30.
The camp will be split into two sides, Team Howe and Team Lindsay, and will feature daily on-ice instruction
and skill development from a team of coaches, led by the Grand Rapids Griffins coaching staff and the Red Wings player development staff. Attendees will also attend classes
designed to help players transition to professional hockey, while experiencing the state-of-the-art player amenities offered at Little Caesars Arena and receiving feedback from Red Wings coaches and management.
The Red Wings roster, which will be released following the 2018 NHL entry draft on June 22-23 in Dallas, will be
comprised primarily of players selected by Detroit over the last several entry drafts, including 2017 first-round
draft pick Michael Rasmussen and 2016 first-round selection Dennis Cholowski, as well as signed free agent prospects and undrafted free agents from college, junior or European leagues.
The past four development camps have included 11 players who played for Detroit over the last two seasons: forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Tyler Bertuzzi, Martin Frk, Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Evgeny Svechnikov and Dominic Turgeon, defensemen Joe Hicketts, Alexey Marchenko and Dan
Renouf and goalie Jared Coreau.
Preseason Slate
The Wings announced their schedule of games for the 2018-19 NHL preseason on Friday.
The Red Wings will hit the ice for their first game action of 2018-19 by playing host to the Pittsburgh Penguins Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena. That matchup starts a stretch of three home games in four days, with contests against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and the Boston Bruins on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
Detroit will then travel and play four road games in a six-day span, visiting Pittsburgh on Sept. 23 (3 p.m.), Chicago on Sept. 25 (8:30 p.m.), Boston on Sept. 26 (7 p.m.) and Toronto on Sept. 28 (7:30 p.m.), prior to the eighth and final preseason game against their Atlantic Division-rivals the Maple Leafs on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena.
Look Away
Missing the playoffs the past two seasons evidently has more people opting to miss the Red Wings. Broadcasts of Detroit games this past season on Fox Sports Detroit showed a 27 percent decrease in ratings, which was the third-lowest among NHL teams. Only the Chicago Blackhawks (29 percent) and New York Rangers (36 percent showed a larger decline in viewership.
