The Blue Jackets have signed the last of their restricted free agents inking Oliver Bjorkstrand to a three year contract.

The deal will pay Bjorkstrand $2.5M per season for a total of $7.5M. When the deal expires he will still be an RFA.

Bjorkstrand had a mini breakout season this past year. He played in all 82 games scoring 11 goals and 29 assists. He was one of just five Blue Jacket skaters to reach 40 points. If all Bjorkstrand does is replicate this season his deal is going to be a steal, however he still possesses the upside for so much more.

He’s continued to get better and is generating scoring chances on a first line basis.

This is a highly skilled player. He can skate, he’s smart and he has a great shot. If he can get regular top six minutes and a regular role on the power play a 50-60 point season is quite possible.

This is a really good deal for the Blue Jackets. $2.75M is not a high price tag for someone with this type of upside. Bjorkstrand gets himself some financial security and sets himself up nicely for an even bigger payday should he reach his full potential.
