The Avalanche on Monday announced they’ve signed former University of Denver forward Logan O’Connor to a two-year, entry-level contract through the 2019-20 season.

O’Connor, 21, spent the past three seasons at DU, where he had been named team captain for the upcoming season.

“Logan is a hard-working player who brings leadership, energy and speed every night,” Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said in a release. “His game has continued to develop each season, and we are excited that he has decided to pursue his professional career with the Avalanche organization.”

O’Connor attended Colorado’s development camp in June.

The Calgary native helped DU win the NCAA championship as a sophomore in 2016-17 when he had 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 44 games. He had 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 41 games as a junior last year.

The 6-foot, 179-pound right wing finished his college career with 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists) in 108 games.

O’Connor had 46 points (19 goals, 27 assists) in 117 career games with Sioux Falls of the United States Hockey League from 2013-15. He helped the Stampede win the Clark Cup as league champions in 2015.

Logan’s father, Myles O’Connor, was drafted by New Jersey in the third round (No. 45) of the 1985 NHL draft and played 43 career NHL games.

Defenseman Patrik Nemeth’s salary arbitration hearing is scheduled for Aug. 4. The arbitrator has 48 hours to render a decision following the hearing, but a contract agreement could be reached before then.

Nemeth, 26, a restricted free agent, made $945,000 last season. He had three goals, 12 assists, 15 points and a plus-27 rating in 68 games – all career highs – after being claimed on waivers from Dallas on Oct. 3. He had one assist in six playoff games.
