Just a quick update here as news has come that both Marko Dano and Tucker Poolman have agreed to new deals.

DAno is 1 year $800,000 and a $50,000 drop from last year.

Poolman is a 3 year deal that looks like this an AAV of $775,000 over 3 years $650,000, $825k and $850k.

The Jets have now taken away all the arbitration hearings and only have Josh Morrissey to really deal with in terms of significant contracts which will likely be a 2-year bridge deal.

Poolman impressed last season in his rookie debut and with one season under his belt many believe he can become a valuable 4th-5th defenseman on the team. He's got three years to prove his worth and will be 28 when the deal ends. He played in 24 games with 1 goal and 1 assist.

As for Dano he comes back at a reduced rate and hopefully with an opportunity to prove his value and contribute to the Jets. Dano only appeared in 23 games last year scoring 2 goals and having 1 assist.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So I was away from life for a bit. Ask Ryan Wilson he knows what was up LOL.

Anyhow everything went down while I was basically without steady cell service and no computer so hope you all had fun on Sunday stressing out and trying to think about how the Jets are going to manage the Trouba situation going forward.

Heard there are lots who like the Tanev deal and that's good. Remember that Tanev is what he is and don't expect more. He's an accessory forward who works well with Lowry and Copp and does not drive offense. He does catch lightning in a bottle once in awhile and score some goals. Basically he's replaceable and while likable as a player on the team for what he does and who he does it with don't get hung up on him.

Now, there's a lot of fear mongering going on with the Jets and their future. It's coming from all sides and I'm not sure where it's coming from. Certainly not the team and really it's based solely around speculation from possible salary cap scenarios and contract negotiations.

There are some harsh realities though but none of which are surprising or really unexpected really. Patrik Laine is going to get paid, Blake Wheeler will too and eventually Jacob Trouba and Josh Morrissey. It all adds up but it's not a catastrophe in the making after this next season it just mean changes are coming.

While the Jets are not Stanley Cup champions they are and should be a good team for several years so it's worth looking at recent cup winners and runners up.

Take the Capitals- they arguably got worse last off season and won the cup.

Vegas- Marc Andre Fleury and a few others had career years and no one knows if what they did was repeatable.

Pittsburgh- taking risks to contend and take chance of winning three cups.

Blackhawks in their three cup wins had huge changes from 2010.

Predators added players stayed true to core and didn't get past second round

There are more examples and details to look at should you choose. The point remains the same though that during a team's cycle they have to find ways to make the best hard decisions. The Jets have those now where they didn't before after the team moved from Atlanta.

This is the result of growth and it requires a different process of thinking than the one that is trying to grow. Actually this is just like any business regardless of industry.

Where the discussions should come is how to make those decisions and what data sets teams are using to support their decision-making for their strategic goals. No this will not be a run on the value of analytics- if you believe in smart business then you should be believing in data usage.

The hard part of all this testing the methods using the data. That's what the Jets have to do and figure out how to make the best hard decisions, just like any business. Thus the sky will not fall on the franchise after the 2018-19 season as some are suggesting it could. The colour may change on the horizon but it's not permanent.

So enjoy the rest of the summer break, be happy the bulk of the team is back and start thinking about what could be new for the Jets for the start of the season.

It's summer, no time to panic.
