Matt Read signed a 1 year 2-way contract with the Wild. $650K if Read plays with the Wild, providing a valuable depth player at a reasonable price.

Read, the former Bemidji State star, is currently playing in the Da Beauty League, along with many other NHL, minor pros, and college players this Summer.

I will be doing a feature on the Da Beauty League later this week.

Read made the Flyers back in 2011 off a PTO, scoring 24 goals and finishing 4th in Calder Trophy voting. Read best known for his speed and penalty killing skills, has appeared to lose a step in the last couple seasons and most of last season was spent in the AHL with the Flyers AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Read is a competitor and will help to push the youngsters in camp, but I would fully anticipate Read to begin the year in Iowa.
