Quinn Hughes skates in charity game and Adam Gaudette at Rookie Showcase

I'll keep this very brief today, because I want you to have a chance to watch Quinn Hughes skate in the USA Hockey Stars & Stripes Showdown if you read this close to real time.

Hughes is a last-minute addition to the Team Blue roster. The game is being played at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, with puck drop at 11 a.m. PT.

The game is being played as a benefit for Jim Johannson, who shepherded the USA Hockey program for close to 20 years before passing away unexpectedly last January. For more background, I wrote about JJ's legacy and the next steps for the USA Hockey program in his article:




If you're a subscriber, Craig Custance has a great piece in The Athletic about how the idea for today's game was hatched over in Denmark during the World Championship, and how Dylan Larkin took the reins to make it happen. He has done a great job: the lineup of players and coaches is top level.

Elsewhere in the hockey world, the NHL Players' Association is holding its rookie showcase this weekend in Toronto—an press opportunity for kids who are expected to crack their teams' NHL lineups this season.

I spotted Adam Gaudette in a box at Saturday's Blue Jays' game with his Northeastern teammate Dylan Sikura. Now we know why they're in Toronto:




Social media is also showing us that some Canucks players are now starting to make their way back to Vancouver to get ready for the new season. Sam Gagner and family were en route on Saturday; Nikolay Goldobin is already here.

Troy Stecher, lives here, of course. He was out at the PNE for Library Day earlier this week.




We should see more players rolling into town in the coming days. The Young Stars tournament in Penticton is now less than two weeks away!
