The Nashville Predators dropped the puck on their six game preseason schedule yesterday with their traditional doubleheader against the Florida Panthers and given the ten goal offensive explosion, coupled with a shutout in the first game, the Predators appear ready to get things going. OK… you can’t put too much weight on the first two preseason games, but there are some very positive things to take from the two wins at the BB&T Center…

- Juuse Saros – Saros started game one and was sharp from the jump, making 24 saves over the first two periods and sharing the shutout with Tom McCollum. There will be a lot of eyes on Saros who just signed a three year extension with Nashville and is the heir-apparent to Pekka Rinne.

- Frederick Gaudreau – Freddy was all over the ice in game one, and his third period snipe for his first goal of the preseason was a thing of beauty. Gaudreau has his mind set on making this team and his determination was highly evident in game one.

- The top line in game two, consisting of Ryan Johansen, Kevin Fiala and Filip Forsberg combined for all five goals including a hat trick for Forsberg. That line also combined for 8 assists, giving that line 13 points on the game.

- Besides Forsberg’s hattie, Kevin Fiala was a beast, involved in all five Predator goals.

- The power play went 2-9 and was dangerous throughout both games.

Solid performances all around and a good start to the preseason. “We got to see a lot of the young players tonight” said head coach Peter Laviolette in a postgame interview with nashvillepredatos.com. He continued “(the vets) are leading the way in practice… and tonight… those were the guys who led the way.”

The practice schedule today…
Group A Goalies - 10:15 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.
Group A Team - 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Group B Goalies - 12:15 p.m. to 12:40 p.m.
Group B Team - 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

There is another intra-squad scrimmage scheduled at Centennial Sportsplex tomorrow at noon.

Random Notes

- Filip Forsberg’s hat trick last night makes him the first Predator player in franchise history to record a hattie in preseason, regular season and post-season play. (S/T to Ryan Porth for that nugget)

- The Predators had video coach Lawrence Feloney on the bench yesterday, well deserved as he has done an outstanding job in the role.

- The Preds reassigned three players to their junior teams after the Sunday scrimmage at Ford Ice Center. Jacob Paquette, Vladislav Yeryomenko and Pavel Koltygin were sent back their respective junior teams.

- The roster stands at 52… I would expect more cuts in the next day or so.

- The Winnipeg Jets have introduced a new third jersey … meh. I would’ve preferred hey went with their Heritage Classic style jerseys.

- Darnell Nurse was signed yesterday to a bridge contract… the latest RFA to finally get back to camp.
