WRAP: FLYERS 5 - ISLANDERS 1

Playing each other for the third time in as many days, the Philadelphia Flyers earned a 5-1 preseason victory over the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Tuesday night. The Islanders took a 3-0 win at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday, and the Flyers responded with a 3-1 triumph at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday.

The Flyers dressed primarily an AHL-bound lineup on Tuesday but the Lehigh Valley Phantoms' contingent represented itself well.

Philly took a 1-0 lead on a goal by defenseman James de Haas at 13:24 of the first period. After the Islanders' David Quenneville equalized the game at 8:12 of the second period, scoring a 6-on-5 goal after a lengthy delayed Flyers penalty that lasted 40+ seconds; Quenneville scored to the short side from the left half boards.

The floodgates opened for the Flyers in a three-goal outburst that enabled them to take a 4-1 lead to the second intermission. Carsen Twarynski scored off the pipe and into the net on the long side to restore a lead at 2-1. Phil Varone came off the bench to score a 6-on-5 goal on a delayed Islanders penalty. Danick Martel opened a three-goal cushion by sniping a goal off the rush on a 2-on-1 created after he beat teenage defenseman Noah Dobson.

The Flyers protected the lead in the third period. The closest call was a puck near the goal line that Christian Folin swept to safety. Jori Lehterä scored late in the game from a few feet in front of the net to make it a 5-1 final.

Alex Lyon was slated to start the game for the Flyers but was unable to go due to a lower-body injury. Anthony Stolarz went the distance in goal, denying 31 of 32 shots to earn the win.

Roster Moves

Late on Tuesday morning, the Flyers returned 2017 first-round pick Morgan Frost and 2017 second-rounder Isaac Ratcliffe to their respective OHL teams. The only remaining CHL-eligible player in camp is amateur tryout defenseman Yegor Zamula.

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall spoke to the media before Tuesday's game about what he needed to see more of from Frost in particular if the 2017-18 OHL MVP runner-up and scoring title runner-up were to have stayed around longer.

"Just a little more puck possession time, a little more maturity in his game. It wasn't there. It was pretty obvious that he wasn't ready for this not just in the game but in practice. It was an easy decision. We told him today, it's not a crime at 19," Hextall said.

"Every day matters. We watch practices hard. If you are falling behind, if you aren't executing drills. ....You've also got to create space for yourself at this level."
