There are sometimes weird games across the world - a game that no fancy stats can explain and something unusual happened in the KHL on Tuesday. Salavat Julaev UFA faced off against Bob Hartley and Avangard Omsk team which managed to put 53 more shots on the net but still lost with a score 2:3.

Avangard began dominating early in the first period allowing only five shots on goal in the first period while putting up fifteen themselves Hartley found his team down 3:0 after twenty minutes of hockey. Dmitry Kugrishev scored two while Vyacheslav Saloduhin managed one to triple the lead.

You would think that it was the most entertaining part of the game? Nope. In the 2nd period, David Desharnais finally notched one for Omsk closing the gap from 0:3 to 3:1. Salavat Julaev couldn't manage to put a shot on goal during their man advantage. Despite that shots on goal were 28-0 in Avangard's favor they couldn't manage to score until with two minutes remaining in the period Maxim Chudinov finally cracked Metsola's net to get back within a goal.

Even during the closing frame of the game Avangard just kept on adding pressure with still nothing going into the opposing net they managed to lose with a final score 3:2.

Shots on goal table showed a marginal gap after the game 64 for Omsk while Salavat Julaev had recorded only 11 which were still enough to earn them a victory.

A new KHL record was also set in saves made during a game - Juha Metsola turned away 62 of 64 pucks he faced.

This also meant that Avangard would have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season and recording only their third loss.
