Unless you've been in a shark cage somewhere deep in the pacific ocean, you have noticed what Timo Meier has been doing this season. The 22-year-old is hot, hot, hot and the rest of the San Jose Sharks are along for the ride.

At 7-4-3 and 17 points, the third place Sharks did not get off to start we all expected. But, San Jose is 5-2-3 in the last 10 and getting better. The slow start would be more of a story if not for Meier.

Timo Time is now.

Meier is tied for the NHL lead in goals with 11 and his 16 points in 14 games is tied for the team lead with Logan Couture and Brent Burns. The 11 goals is almost twice as many as the second best goal scorer, Couture. He leads the team in GWG's and tied for the team lead in power play goals.

To say Meier has been phenomenal is an understatement. Pete Deboer is able to plug him in anywhere and he'll produce. To say this type of production is unexpected is not a slight. We knew Meier was talented, but elite NHL talent? I did not expect this.

Here's a few sharks bites to chew on:

- Meier has points in 10 of the last 11 games and goals in eight of those games. He has multi-point games in four of six games and mutli-goal games in two of those.

- Meier's playing in his third season. He had career highs in goals (21) and points (36) in 81 games last season. He's currently on pace to rack up 64 goals and 94 points this season. Those are MVP numbers. Jonathan Cheechoo owns the franchise record for goals in a season with 56. Obviously the current pace is unsustainable, but it sure is fun to dream.

- Meier is clearly feeling it right now. He average 2.56 shots per game last season. This season that number is up to 3.28 and may continue to go up with each good shift.

- His shooting percentage is a beefy 23% compared to just 10% in 2017-18.

Anyway you slice is, Meier is off to an incredible start. Can he keep it up? Only time will tell, but for now he has been a very bright spot in a less-than-bright start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Steve
