Growing up in Vancouver, Detroit Red Wings forward Michael Rasmussen was a proud Canucklehead.

“We had season tickets when I lived in Van, so we went to a lot,” Rasmussen told DetroitRedWings.com. “Mostly went to see all the big names. Like if (Sidney) Crosby came to town, stuff like that. Lots of games for sure.”

Excited to play against the team he worshipped as a youngster, Rasmussen was at the same time well aware that the Canucks he will be facing Tuesday aren’t the same Canucks he grew up idolizing.

“I don’t think there’s too many guys I grew up watching but it will be definitely cool to play the hometown team,” Rasmussen said.

Like most Vancouver kids, his favorite Canucks were identical - identical twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

“I just liked the Sedins,” Rasmussen said. “I think they were unreal. Those were my guys growing up.

‘It’s cool to play the Canucks. Obviously, there’s no Sedins or anything like that anymore but it’s awesome playing the Canucks for sure. The one that’s more circled is in Van, because obviously it’s my hometown.”

Ehn Again
The Wings recalled forward Christoffer Ehn from AHL Grand Rapids for Tuesday’s game.

Assigned to the AHL Griffins on Oct. 25, Ehn played nine games for Detroit, collecting an assist Oct. 11 against Toronto for his first NHL point.

Injury Updates
Forwards - Frans Nielsen, who will miss his fourth game in a row on Tuesday, confirmed that his mystery ailment is in fact a concussion, and what is holding up his return to action is Nielsen’s inability to pass his baseline test.

“I was hoping for today but the testing showed I wasn’t quite there,” Nielsen said. “Maybe for Friday (against the New York Rangers). I don’t have any symptoms or anything, but my testing is lacking a little bit. It’s more my memory lacking a little bit. That’s it.”

Forward Andreas Athanasiou (leg injury) also hopes to be good to go by Friday.

“I’m doing a lot better, just taking it day by day,” Athanasiou said. “ It’s been getting better every day. I’m headed in the right direction for sure. Hopefully, it should be good by Friday.”
