Sixty-one-plus minutes of scoreless hockey came to a satisfying end for the Dallas Stars on Friday night as they earned a 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins at the American Airlines Center in what an often-feisty match. The teams combined for 52 penalty minutes and 60 shots on goal (37 by the Stars) before the night was over. The Stars improved to 10-7-2 overall and 6-2-2 over the last 10 games.

On the winning goal, the Bruins had a scoring chance in the Dallas end but missed connections. Stars forward Mattias Janmark grabbed the puck and led a 2-on-1 rush joined by Jason Dickinson. Janmark elected to shoot. Boston netminder Tuukka Rask made the initial save but Dickinson potted the rebound at 1:34 of OT. The goal was Dickinson's second OT tally of the season.

Rask finished with 36 saves in a losing cause. Ben Bishop earned a 23-save shutout.

Friday's game got heated at times. Boston took exception to a Radek Faksa hit on perennial Selke Trophy candidate Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron eventually returned to the game but was laboring.

Bruins arch-pest Brad Marchand got dispatched for 18 minutes worth of penalties on this night, including 16 in the middle frame. In the third period, Dallas veteran center Jason Spezza fought Boston's Connor Clifton in Clifton's NHL debut.

The Bruins were missing ageless defenseman Zdeno Chara from the lineup. Clifton and Jakub Zboril made their NHL debuts for Boston while defenseman Gavin Bayreuther made his NHL debut for the Stars.

Dallas returns to action on Sunday afternoon, paying a visit to the New York Islanders.
