Caps Back to where the Party Started

The 15-8-3 Washington Capitals return to an arena and city that will forever hold a place in any Caps fans heart when the 14-3-1 Vegas Golden Knights host the reigning Stanley Cup champions in a rematch of last years’ final won in 5 games by Washington. The Caps beat Vegas 5-2 in the first meeting since the Final in Washington on Oct 10.

Washington is coming off one of their worse losses in years as they blew a 5-1 lead over Anaheim on Sunday to lose 6-5. Winning seven games in a row heading into the Anaheim game made the loss sting a little less but the Caps have been resilient and I’d expect nothing less after this loss. Tom Wilson continued his scoring streak in that game and now has points in eight straight including and has goals in six straight.

Alex Ovechkin has not dropped off since the summer of partying ended and as a matter of fact, you could argue he’s playing better this season than last.

Before losing in Edmonton on Saturday, the Golden Knights had won five in a row and are playing good hockey outscoring opponents 23-8 in the five games before the 2-1 loss to the Oilers. William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault lead Vegas in scoring with 21 points and Marchessault is also tied with Cody Eakin and new addition Max Pacioretty. Former Capital Nate Schmidt returned to the lineup 8 games ago and since returning from the NHL suspension he has led the Golden Knights in ice time averaging just under 22 minutes a game.

Capitals next game is in Arizona to take on the Coyotes at 9 PM EST on Thursday night.
