For the time being, the Detroit Red Wings might want to avoid doing the hokey pokey or the hand jive.

For the second consecutive game, the Wings lost a key player to an apparent broken hand. Defenseman Danny DeKeyser left Tuesday’s 6-5 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning after taking a Steven Stamkos shot off the left hand.

“That’s a big loss for us,” Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. “He logs a lot of minutes, plays a lot of defensive situations, plays against the other teams’ top lines every night. It’s a big loss for us for sure.”

The Wings confirmed that they expect DeKeyser to be out 4-6 weeks, they were guarded about releasing any information beyond that morsel.

“We’re waiting on results of a CT scan,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told Mlive.com. “We’re estimating 4-6 weeks. We’ll know more for sure after the scan. We haven’t heard any results yet.”

DeKeyser injury came one game after right-winger Anthony Mantha suffered a broken hand in a fight with Colorado’s Patrik Nemeth in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Avalanche.

Daley Update
Trevor Daley won’t be riding to the rescue of the Wings’ defense. He’s missed the last three games with a lower-body injury and his return date remains fluid.

“Daley did not skate today,” Blashill said. “We’re hoping and anticipating that he skates tomorrow on his own and that would be seen as Step One of kind of getting back.

“Once he gets skating on his own, I’d probably say it would probably be 4-5 days after that before he’d be able to play, but that’s a total guesstimation.”

Minor Matters
The Wings recalled forward Wade Megan from AHL Grand Rapids and more reinforcements could be on the way in time for Thursday’s game at Toronto against the Maple Leafs.

The plan was to wait until after Wednesday’s Grand Rapids-San Antonio Rampage tilt to determine which player might get the nod. Grand Rapids won that game 4-2.

“Yeah we’ll look at potentially making a recall here tonight after the game,” Blashill said. “We’ll see how the game goes for them and make decisions on that tonight.

“We’ll anticipate playing the players we have available to us but we want to make sure we have enough healthy bodies and have an extra body in case something were to happen.”

Megan went pointless in a six-game stint with the Wings earlier this season.
