The Jets looked like they had turned a corner after they responded to a rather lucky moment for Ryan Spooner as he gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at the 10 minute mark of the first period. Within five minutes the Jets had stormed back for 2-1 lead after Perreault on the PP and Ehlers with some good skate luck. When it was 3-1 in the second after a Laine shot had trickled past Talbot fans felt they could rest easy but these Oilers are not the ones of a month ago, not with Ken Hitchcock guiding them.

The Jets did a good job of managing the danger of Connor McDvavid quite well as he only had 2 assists and the shots volume against represented that. The Jets at 5vs5 had 65 attempts at the Oilers net the whole night while only allowing 32 coming back. The third period alone was utter dominance with a 34-5 advantage and eventually the home team was rewarded with the tying goal as Wheeler hit Scheifele in his low slot office to rip it past Talbot.

The Oilers found their groove though and got some good fortune and Nurse was able to combine with Trouba to put one past Hellebuyck. The goal was reviewed and had Trouba's stick not been there I would say it might have been overturned.

That's one goal apiece from the skates and then Khaira got one as Puljujarvi was able to swing around from the back of the net and get the puck in front for the chaotic and lucky bounce. This recurring theme of protection in front of Hellebuyck or lack of protection is something that needs to be dealt with. Certainly the Oilers made smart plays to get the puck there but those are the kind of goals that should not happen and hardly Hellebuyck's fault although he owns the stats.

Josh Morrissey had the fun assignment of dealing with Connor McDavid last night and did an excellent job for the most part as he disrupted his play and kept him from scoring despite some great opportunities. His gap control and stick work were excellent and a frustrated McDavid took two minors during the game. On one of those Morrissey was out for an extended time and McDavid came out of the box to get the puck- 2 minutes of rest vs 1 min of skating and Morrissey was able to manage the rush despite looking like he was about to puke.

It was these two who would eventually determine the game once OT arrived as McDavid had a chance to end it but could not beat the post after cutting across the high slot. Clang!

The young star corralled the puck and then came back for another rush before the Jets got possession as Wheeler brought it up to feed to Scheifele who waited for Morrssiey to catch up. Coming in with speed Morrissey was able to go wide as Draisaitl and Nurse seemed to both play Scheifele as Morrissey joined in. The wrist shot beat Talbot and the Jets completed the comeback after being up 3-1.

Tonight they play their first game in Chicago after handing the Blackhawks a 6-3 loss on Tuesday. They are coming off 6-3 win over Pittsburgh and looking to gather some momentum as they have a 6-6-3 record at home. Given his play on Tuesday and it being a back to back game Brossoit will likely start saving Hellebuyck for prime time against Tampa on Sunday.

Not much to add other than it still seems like the Jets have their lapses but are surviving them more often than not. If the third period is any indication the team can flex it's will when needed and it was quite something to watch. The depth of the roster made it so the Oiler really could not match them and keep up despite having McDavid but even he needs rest.

Most will look past the Blackhawks for Tampa but this game matters too and the Jet should keep their eyes on the division rival who is probably looking for a little revenge.
