This will have to be a short post, but the Senators made a move with the team that they are playing against tonight, the Vancouver Canucks:

Nilsson is a career .905 SV% not-so-great backup goalie, but he is better than Mike McKenna as a stopgap. Darren Archibald and Tom Pyatt will probably both be in the AHL, and aren't really players of note. However, it is significant that Pyatt is officially gone from the organization. I don't love seeing Dorion giving up a 6th round pick because a rebuilding team shouldn't throw away picks in small deals such as this one. It's a lottery pick, but you should take as many lottery picks as you can.

All players in this deal are UFAs in the summer, so it's a short-term move for both sides. Ottawa got the best player in the deal (Nilsson), and perhaps he plays well enough that they want to keep him around. But they need to learn their lesson with Andrew Hammond and Mike Condon and not give him multiple years for a contract if they decide to re-sign him. Overall, this move is pretty insignificant, but it makes sense for the Senators who needed somebody to cover for Craig Anderson.
