Wow... and back at it...

Well… that was an interesting one. The Nashville Predators kept to their winning ways last night, beating Chicago at the United Center 4-3 in overtime. The Blackhawks actually resembled a team that cares in last night’s showdown… a team that cares, but still doesn’t have the horses to make a serious run at a playoff spot.

NBCSN made a big deal of the team being only six points out of a wild card spot, but all of the teams ahead of the Blackhawks have games in hand and as we all know… leaping over 4 teams in the conference standings, when you are minus in games in hand and oh BTW, have only won a single game since the new year, is a herculean task. I know that NBC desperately wants to make the Hawks relevant… I’m just not sure that is going to happen this season… to the game.

Welcome back Filip Forsberg. In the immortal words of Nuke LaLouche; Forsberg “announced his presence with authority” last night with a dominating two goal performance that included a game winner that was a true work of art. In just his second game back, Forsberg was a force, dangerous every time he touched the puck. You could see Filip and the rest of the JoFA line giving the Hawks fits all night long. The line struck as a response to Chicago tying the game in the first period on a phenomenal set play as Viktor Arvidsson took an outstanding stretch pass from PK SUbban to take back the lead eight seconds later.

Then it was Forsberg, scoring a power play goal to put the Preds up 3-1 in the second, picking his corner an snapping home a nasty snipe for his first goal since returning from injury. Forsberg has admitted there is a little rust, and his giveaway on the game tying goal just fed the fire, and the Predators took advantage.

Nashville won the opening faceoff in overtime and refused to give up the puck. Chicago never had possession in the overtime, and on the change… Forsberg hopped over the boards, took his feed from Mattias Ekholm and left a frustrated Jonathan Towes in his wake, bulling his way past the Chicago captain and patiently waited for Hawks netminder Collin Delia to make his move, a quick flip of the wrist… game.

No rest for the weary as Nashville is in Columbus tonight
