Wild Need to Forget Saturday Night

It will be interesting to see how Bruce Boudreau's team bounces back after he called them out following what he called "the worst performance" in his tenure with the club.

Saturday's 5-2 embarrassing loss on home ice to the Red Wings was actually worse than the score indicates. How they managed to be outplayed in every facet of the game after playing some pretty solid hockey winning five of their previous seven and climbing back into the playoff race.

They are now 3-6-1 at home over their last 10 at the Xcel Energy Center, where a year ago they were one of the league's best on home ice.

Tonight the Wild take the show on the road against the team with the worst record in the league to date, Philadelphia. The Flyers have seen the dismissal of Ron Hextall their general manager, ironically replaced by form Wild GM, Chuck Fletcher. Also Dave Hakstol their head coach was relieved of his duties and the team is a shell of the playoff team they were a year ago.

Injuries have not been kind to the Flyers goalies either, but quite honestly Philadelphia's goaltending woes are nothing new this season and have been well documented.

Their goaltender of the future, Carter Hart, has been recalled at a much earlier juncture than originally planned, and thrust into regular duty behind a struggling team.

For the Wild it is a matter of getting back to what they do best and that is to play a highly disciplined game, with solid team defense and strong goaltending. The problem is that all of those aspects of the game must come to play every night for Minnesota as they are not strong enough in any of those three areas for one to carry the load.

The Flyers are a prideful group and Philly is never an exciting crowd, but if the Wild can jump out early that crowd could turn on the locals.

Saturday's game must be forgotten by the Wild, there is no turning back the clock. Just take the lessons learned and take care of business tonight.

It's Always Hockey Day in The State of Hockey!
