So how long is too long for Paul Fenton to make his mark on the team?

The 2018-19 Minnesota Wild are no better today than they were at the end of last season, and to be quite honest they are actually a bit worse.

The facts are true that some of the chips Fenton has to deal with are difficult with NMC contracts and the overall makeup of the roster. That said many other GMs have been in similar and even worse scenarios and managed to make moves to free themselves of some of the handcuffs.

Somehow in Toronto they rid themselves of horrendous contracts that should have crippled them for years, as just one example. Ron Hextall got the Flyers contract situation righted through a process, despite the fact that he was fired, which by the way was for unrelated reasons.

We hear how Fenton has been trying to make deals but nothing has materialized or that he has been low balled on offers for his assets. That is a joke, because this is not a one way street. There are many targets he can go after, it doesn't always have to be the names the media bandied about. There are plenty of opportunities for him and his scouting staff to find the gems hidden in other systems stuck behind loaded NHL rosters.

If he is being low balled as is being reported, maybe he needs to make an adjustment and go on the offensive.

Just a thought...
