Dale Weise is heading to Montreal to put on the bleu, blanc, et rouge again....

The Habs announced this morning that Weise has been recalled from the AHL and we will likely see Weise occupying a bottom 6 role with some PK time. Weise was ecstatic about the news of this trade and Habs fans are grateful this player has such a desire to return to play in MTL.

After Weise and Fleischmann were dealt for Danault and a 2nd (Romanov) some thought Weise would return to MTL as a UFA, but he advised he never received an offer from the Habs after he signed a great contract with the Flyers as a UFA for 4 years at $2.35 million US. No doubt a deal Weise could not turn down as it sets him and his family up to live well for a very long time.

Dale's 152 games with Philly over the last 2 and half seasons only yielded 17 goals and 34 assists and for all his playoff heroics with MTL that got him that big contract he was only put into 2 playoff games for the Flyers posting no points to go with a -3.

But, Weise admits that after he was traded from MTL he just didn't have the same drive, the same desire. Being dealt from his family's favorite team just left him in a position where he was not the same. Definitely something the old Flyers GM likely hates hearing as he gave him a $10 million dollar deal assuming he was getting the heart and soul, gritty, timely goal scoring winger the Habs helped him become. That wasn't the case, but to be fair the Flyers are a bit of a dysfunctional team and have been for a long time. I have no doubt Weise will come to MTL and become the old fan favorite he used to be in no time, as long as he can keep pace with the new game plan. I love the deal regardless as I think Weise will be much more useful than Schlemko turned out to be.

Perfect time to recall Weise as well as he can get a couple practices and work with the coaches in before the next game Thursday against the Nashville Predators. So at least he has a chance to get up to speed.

Dale comes in at a time when the word "team" means the most to the Canadiens since the Koivu days. The team has bought into playing for each other and it is paying off huge. Dale seems like the perfect addition for the team in this regard. Now we will see if Bergevin has any other moves on the way. I suspect we will see a defenseman or two acquired before the deadline so sign up for Twitter to be first on the breaking news.

In other news, the New Jersey Devils claimed D'Agostino off waivers today. It's unfortunate to lose players for nothing, but this has happened a couple times this season to the Habs and it hasn't really matter much. Kenny D is a fantastic AHL player who hasn't been able to translate that to consistent NHL production and will be on his 5th team in 5 years now. I wish him the best in New Jersey.

Go Habs Go
