Teams looking for a depth defenseman...

As we head towards the trade deadline there is going to be a lot of attention paid to Artemi Panarin, Sergei Bobrovsky, Mark Stone, and Matt Duchene. This is justified attention. These are big name players who could potentially be on the move.

Today I’m going to focus on a lesser known player that I believe could really help out on the depth front. This time of year most teams would love to add another defenseman and not break the bank. If you can find somebody like that who is right handed even better. The focal point today fits the bill. That player is Nick Jensen who is currently playing on Detroit’s second pairing on the right side.

Jensen is a 28 year old player with under 200 games played in the NHL. He is a UFA at the end of the year and makes 812k. He has been a useful player in 2018-19.



On the left is this season. On the right is his three year sample. If anything it shows Jensen could stand to improve a little bit with his assists this year. These are really decent numbers if you are searching for a depth defenseman



The Penguins have spent all season long playing their left handed defenseman on their off side. Jensen would be a great fit behind Kris Letang and Justin Schultz. Since Jensen is not a high end rental and Detroit would/should be looking for futures I think there would be a fit for a trade if Pittsburgh wanted it.

If they don’t, there should definitely be other teams looking to acquire
