The Bruins are having fun, and it’s evident

Following the Bruins thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory against the Florida Panthers Thursday night, there was a word that the Bruins kept using in their postgame scrums: "fun."

If you didn’t find the Bruins fifth consecutive victory and 18th straight game with a point fun, well, then I don’t know what to tell you.

After the Bruins fell behind by two for the second time in as many games, they once again were able to claw themselves back into the game, tying things on goals by David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron.

After Jonathan Huberdeau gave the Panthers their second lead of the night midway through the third period, and chance after chance by the Bruins failed to tie the game, it seemed like the Bruins were racing towards their first regulation loss since January 19th.

“It’s a lot of fun. There’s stretches in the game where it’s frustrating at times because we kind of fall into a pattern some nights where it’s – I thought first period, right, when we got below their goal line, we made some plays to the slot, you know, we can expose them there,” head coach Bruce Cassidy said following the win.

But with 38 seconds left, and down by one, the Bruins decided it was time to have some fun again. Matt Grzelcyk’s rocket from the point found the back of the net, giving the Bruins another dramatic game-tying goal.

“And Grizzy [Grzelcyk] with the goalie pulled, letting a rocket go through some traffic and those are fun to celebrate and that was a pretty big pick me up and those can give you life for a while and hopefully we can get an interjection of continued energy from the effort that we put in and the result we ended up getting,” said David Backes.

With 38 seconds left and the game newly tied, overtime appeared on the horizon for the second straight game.

But Patrice Bergeron had other ideas.

But before we get to Bergeron’s last second heroics, I need to recognize the play Brad Marchand made along the boards to set up Bergeron’s game-winning goal.

From the box out, to the pass, it was just an all-around A+ play from Marchand.

Bergeron took the beautiful feed from Marchand and beat Panthers' goalie Roberto Luongo for the second time in the game.

Bergeron coming up clutch yet again shouldn’t shock anyone as the Bruins continue to find different ways to win during this impressive points streak.

“Yeah, obviously we have one of the best lines in the NHL obviously, but you want to kind of have everyone get involved and you’ve got to find multiple ways to win, like you said. So it’s fun winning games like that,” said Grzelcyk.

During the Bruins current point streak, challenges have come and gone and nothing seems to slow them down.

Losing their leading scorer in David Pastrnak, no problem.

Missing out on important time to build chemistry with trade deadline acquisition Marcus Johansson, no problem.

And then last night, skating against the Panthers without Jake DeBrusk, their hottest goal scorer who is day-to-day with a lower body injury, no problem again.

“It’s really fun obviously playing in games right now and getting wins, especially at home,” added Grzelcyk. “So yeah, you try not to overthink it. You just want to go out there and play.”

Something magical is happening with the Bruins right now and everyone involved seems to be enjoying the run the Bruins are on.

“It’s so fun coming to the rink every day,” said defenseman Charlie McAvoy. “We really are a family, a brotherhood, and things are going really well right now.”

As the Bruins inch towards locking up the two seed in the Atlantic division, and home-ice advantage in their inevitable first round date with the Toronto Maple Leafs, they hope the fun continues.

Or, can we just fast forward to the first round Game 7 between the two teams that we all know is coming?

Wouldn’t that be fun?
