Game 69: NYR-EDM, ADA/Andersson out, Claesson/Brickley in

The Rangers kick off their Western Canada swing in Edmonton, as they face the Oilers at the Rogers Center. Following tonight’s game, New York takes on Vancouver on Wednesday and Calgary on Friday before facing Minnesota on Saturday. With seven healthy defensemen, Tony DeAngelo is the odd man out tonight while Lias Andersson is the forward scratched. Alexandar Georgiev will be between the pipes.

I understand wanting Fredrik Claesson to get a shot at playing again, but as mentioned by others, why sit ADA against a speed team like the Oilers on a big ice surface? With Marc Staal opting back in, does he play with Neal Pionk? Do we see Brady Skjei and Kevin Shattenkirk paired again? Libor Hajek is out, so Brendan Smith will end up back on the blueline in place of ADA.

Andersson played just 6:59 Saturday, so sitting him is not a shock. Connor Brickley replaces him on the fourth line, joining Boo Nieves. What we will need to wait to see is how the remainder of that line and all the lines are configured. Will David Quinn go with what started the game against New Jersey with Chris Krieder on the fourth line, or does CK20 get rewarded for his strong finish and move up as he did Saturday? I could Jimmy Vesey landing on the fourth line to start the game, keeping the other two trios intact.
