Lots of changes to the projected standing last night as we went 3-7 in the prediction column, and when upsets happen EVERYTHING changes. Remember, the Projected Final Standings are a result of our simulator playing out all the games for the rest of the season and if the favorite doesn’t win the simulator re-calibrates.
Today I thought I would go deeper into why the East is Projecting as it is...the key races.
The Metro Champ
A great race for the top of the Metro...Pittsburgh due to the factors in the remaining games is projecting out to 108 points, where the Caps are projecting out to 105 points... Both teams are playing nearly perfect hockey as their experience is kicking in BIG, but the Caps have three games left with Tampa.
The Bruins/Leafs Race
Boston's loss to Winnipeg last night dropped their projected finish from 115 points to 112. The Bruins have a tough schedule the rest of the way...They play Tampa twice, Columbus twice, and the Wild… Currently, the simulator has the Bruins beating Tampa Twice and getting 3 points out of Columbus…
Meanwhile Toronto is still projecting at 107, but they can make up some points. The Leafs play the Flyers twice and currently the simulator only has the Leafs getting 1 of a possible 4 points from Philly. It does have them beating Nashville and Carolina…

The Simulator has them getting 3 of 4 points from Boston, getting OT points from Cgy, Edm, and Buff. Losing tonight to Carolina. Also losing to Vancouver and Nashville.

The Simulator has them beating Toronto twice, getting a point out of Pitt, beating Carolina twice, losing to the Caps, Blues, and Isles in OT/SO.
For Carolina…
The Simulator has them beating Columbus, and Montreal...Losing to Pitt twice, Tampa, Wash twice, Toronto and Philly…
For Montreal…
The Simulator has them beating..Chicago, NYI, Buff and Winnipeg. It has them losing to Philly, Tampa, Wash, and Toronto..however, the hope for the Habs is Tampa, Wash, and Toronto are the last three games of the season...so it is possible that their opponents may be resting some players.
