LA Noir for Jets in first game of road trip

It was a late one for the home team with a local start time of 7:30 PM and which was 9:30 CST and by the time the game had ended many Jets fans weren't even awake. The game could have had something to do with the too but in the end the Jets pulled out a 3-2 win over the disillusioned LA Kings.

Love him or hate him, Tyler Myers gave both sides of his polarized observers plenty to talk about last night with his 200 foot rush to score the game winner or his interesting break-outs that resulted in nothing. The Myers that draws ire and adoration was on display last night and there was no easy way to find middle ground. I think it's fair to leave that one alone.

Sami Niku also garnered a fair bit of attention last night too and the AHL defenseman of the year last year is starting to find his groove within the confines of the NHL level game. Niku's reads in the offensive zone were excellent most of the game and he seems to have a knack for knowing ho the can use the space teams are giving him. He still has aspects to learn about the front of his own net and certain nuances to Paul Maurice's system but everything looks promising for Niku and the Jets. One can only dream of a Byfuglien Niku pairing where they both control the play and make life hell for the opposition.

Kyle Connor had a goal on the PP and helped Hayes score his 17th. Connor had his offensive moments of brilliance but also had some trouble again playing back in his own zone. When the offense is clicking there is much with the other parts of Connor's game that can be forgiven.

Tanev had a rough night. Or as Jets Twitter said, again and again, and again. "Tanev is having a night". Sometimes it goes that way other times you get lucky and then there was last night.

Jacob Trouba had an assist on Connor's PP goal and now has 40 points on the season. Is that the quietest 40 points for a defenseman ever on the the Jets? For this season Trouba is tied with Werenski in points and is in the top 21 players with 40 or more points. His contract ask of 6 million last summer sort of looks fairly reasonable now.

Did anyone like the two goals Brossoit allowed? It seems the second one was a bit more egregious in terms of how it was allowed but perhaps that's a back-up simply coming back down to his natural level of play and ability.

The Jets did not allow the Kings a shot on net in the third period until the 3:50 mark. When's the last time we saw them suppress shots like that? It's been awhile and yes it is the Kings, building good habits within a game is a good thing. Now it's time to see if this type of stifling becomes a habit.

The irony of the above is the Jets lost the cross battle but when it came to unblocked shots, scoring chances and shots on net at 5vs5 they dominated. That's a good thing even if it is against LA. Let's see if it's repeatable against the Ducks on Weds night.
