What happened in Vegas...

What the heck happened the last two games? Seriously how can a team go from what happened in Vegas to Winnipeg on Saturday?

The good news for the Jets was they left whatever happened in Vegas in Vegas and then they managed a first period that was controlled by Nashville into a starting point for greatness. Well let's makes sure greatness is in context, but given that this was the last meeting of the two Central Division teams and chief rivals, it was a statement. Now, also add the fact that the Jets have a game in hand and the two points sitting there for the taking on Saturday were rather important.

I'll be honest I've been shorting Kyle Connor for a bit. I have nothing against the the guy, but I think there are aspects to his game that leave me wanting, then he does THAT. Speaking of 'that' he did it due to Laine making another pass that many would have shot, most likely to futility. If he isn't scoring goals he's now making some really good passes and again remind me why people think Laine is a one trick pony?

Now let's not get too caught up on Laine's contribution because there's merit to what he is doing when not scoring- a lot of merit. Now look at Connor's first goal...

Who is that getting undressed? Oh Winnipeg's favorite hated son, PK Suban. Now I'm not going to pick on Suban he can play on my team any time and more importantly he can be in my corner of 'life' even more. But why does he stumble so often in front of his own net?

Let's not overlook Hayes, he stood at the blue line and saw who was coming in hot and made the perfect pass. Speaking of Hayes did you see the graphic that Sportsnet showed tonight- Hayes leads all deadline acquisitions with points, more than Mark Stone.

So notice what Ehlers does? He basically took a top pairing of Scheifele and Wheeler and gave them a shot of adrenalin by being moved up to the top line. Expectations are for goals from Ehlers but he simply makes players change the way they manage his line- whoever is on it. That trio was dangerous all night and you know what- it didn't affect the number two line.

That's back to back shut outs of Hellebuyck- no that I expect him to stop goals like this all the time but for one of the rare times this season luck between the pipes was on his side.

I'm not going to pronounce that Rinne is done but is he showing the signs of age more often than not? There were two goals he should have had at least. That's not a good thing and Jets fans know that feeling well, it's all too familiar but something seems different with Rinne and that's concerning considering his age and contract.

You have two RFAs to sign and both are scoring huge. Don't kid yourself the one who has 109 goals in 230 games vs the 62 in 170 games is getting paid but what is the different between .47 goals/game vs .36? Go deep on that for contract demands.

So what happens now for the Central, are the Jets done with it and can ride it out, assuming they get the extra 2 points from a game in hand? Maybe or maybe not but aside from being close in the standings should anyone on Nashville feel any more confident than many Jets fans feel? The two heavyweights of the league last year are not the same two teams and given the talent on each who would you bet on coming out to take the west, if that's possible?

I'm done- in BC trying to enjoy the last of winter. Yeah even after the one we've had on the prairies this year but the mountains call!
