The Coyotes will finish one of the weirdest seasons ever today against the Jets.
Despite getting far and away the most injuries to the most important players in the NHL, the Coyotes came very close to making the playoffs.
That they didn't really sucks, but really, they didn't deserve to.
The Coyotes can't score, they are terribly coached and they their GM made one of the worst trades of any GM this season.
That's just a fact.
Now you're probably saying but isn't Rick Tocchet a candidate for coach of the year? Yeah he probably is, but that's only because no one who votes will take the time to look into anything, and people credit the coach for what the goalie does.
To be explicitly clear, Rick Tocchet ran Dylan Strome out of town, by refusing to play him even though he always put up great numbers in impossible situations.
Since the trade, Strome is among the NHL leaders in P/60 5v5 scoring. The actual leader last time I checked, which was earlier in the week.
Tocchet also played Alex Galchenyuk with Nick Cousins more than any other centres.
Hey Rick, all your players are injured, so why not play Galchenyuk at centre where he prefers? Ah nevermind.
Hey Rick your team can't score, but Connor Garland can. What's that, he's on the fourth line?

Darcey Kuemper will finish with a top 60 all time season for goalies playing 50 or more games, and that is the only reason the Coyotes are even close.
It's not the garbage coaching of Rick Tocchet, that is for sure.
Kuemper went insane, and now he should be traded while the value is high. But who knows if that will happen. Somehow I doubt it.
Kuemper should probably win the Vezina, but he won't for the same reasons why Trotz and Tocchet will get coach of the year nominations.
Anyways, the success of the Coyotes sort of sucks because it means Tocchet will be back next year, and they will draft lower than they should and they still don't get to make the playoffs.
If you want to be really sick about it, the fact is with all their players on the I.R they should have just tanked the season since they had a built in excuse to lose.
Now they'll pick 14th, they'll overrate their status as a playoff team and they'll come back with the coach whose team, when it needed two points to stay alive, spent an entire overtime circling back with the puck instead of being aggressive, against the goddamn Devils of all teams, only to lose in a shootout.
