What a Shock Wild Fall in Lottery

So a few things have happened since the Wild wrapped up the 2018-19 regular season on Saturday.

First we learned why the Wild dressed 7 defensemen for the finale in Dallas. That was because J.T. Brown had been arrested in the early morning hours on suspicion of public intoxication. I will not get into the details here only to say and agree with what J.T. Brown said afterward in his apology, that he put himself in a bad situation and that he is sorry for doing so.

Not exactly the wisest choice for a guy that delivered very little on the ice this season, even spending time in Iowa to boot.

Next came the Wild year end press conference in which Paul Fenton talked about the season, the roster turning over, injury updates, and of course the fact that Bruce Boudreau is the Wild coach moving forward into the last year of his contract.

He did not give BB a ringing endorsement nor did it sound as if he is fully behind him as the Wild move forward.

Fenton ripped the media a bit for their lack of responsibility when it came to reporting on player injuries, stating that hockey is a mean game and his players livelihood are at stake when it comes right down to it.

He fell back on the Dumba and Koivu injuries as a reason for the Wild missing the playoffs which is not entirely accurate. Dumba yes, Koivu, no. The team was going nowhere even with Koivu in the lineup.

The contracts of Assistant GM, Shep Harder, Director of Player Personnel Andrew Brunette, and Andrew Thomas from the hockey operations department were all not renewed.

Lastly the draft lottery delivered the latest kick in the teeth to the Wild as they not only dropped a position going from 11th to 12th for the upcoming June draft, and to add insult to injury the Blackhawks jumped all the way up to third position.

I'm not saying that this really seems...well you know what I mean.

The Blackhawks who are the darlings of the NHL with all the prime time games and Winter Classics along with two New York market teams all jumping to the top of the draft.

Just saying...
