You know fine, let's do it.

Connor McDavid is the best thing that has happened to this franchise in over thirty years. As the 2014/2015 season came to a close, the Oilers finished third last in the NHL and there seemed to be no end in sight.

The Edmonton won the literal golden ticket and the chance to draft the best player since Sidney Crosby. Since that time, McDavid has done the impossible and surpassed the hype, he is the irrefutable best player in the National Hockey League. Teams rarely win trades if they give up the best player, let alone the best player in the game. This is something Edmonton fans should know already.

I don't know if it is the recent string of poor weather we have had up North or maybe the fact that I fell down twelve flights of stairs and injured my head... either way I'm in the right mood to trade McDavid.

Shockingly there are very fews teams that have the assets that Edmonton would need in order to give up a Connor McDavid in return. In short Edmonton would be looking for the following:

- A 1st line centre/winger capable of producing 70+ points
- A top pairing defenceman
- Another roster player
- Prospects/Draft picks to secure a strong future

I pulled a few teams at random to illustrate what roster players they would need to include in a trade. This isn't including the additional draft picks that these teams would have to give up as well.

For each of these trades the other team should probably be looking to add another 2-3 first round picks.

Arizona Coyotes
- Clayton Keller
- Oliver Ekman Larsson
- Jakob Chychrun

Carolina Hurricanes
- Sebastian Aho
- Dougie Hamilton
- Warren Foegele

Chicago Blackhawks
- Alex Debrincat
- Dylan Strome
- 2019 1st Round Pick (Bowen Byram)

Calgary Flames
In your dreams

St Louis Blues
- Vladamir Tarasenko
- Colton Parayko

Tampa Bay Lightning
- Brayden Point
- Anthony Cirelli
- Mikhail Sergachev

Toronto Maple Leafs
- William Nylander
- Zach Hyman
- Morgan Rielly

Vancouver Canucks
- Elias Pettersson
- Quintin Hughes
- Nikolay Goldobin

Bottom line is most teams/fans would scoff at the idea of giving up that many assets for a single player, it's why you don't see Crosby's or Ovechkin's traded.

You could look at any of these trades and justify that Edmonton's overall roster would be improved. However fans would miss out on watching the most exciting player to ever play the game on a nightly basis. The Oilers have plenty of holes to address but no one should consider for a moment that trading Connor McDavid is the answer.

Back off you vultures, he's ours.
