Rumoured Trade Works for Me

The Coyotes clearly need to improve their team, and so the rumour mill is in full swing with the draft just over a week away.

Recently the Coyotes were rumoured to be interested in Matt Duchene, but if he's going to make over what the Sabres are paying Jeff Skinner, then that is probably a dud.

(I'll still be pumped if it happens, it's probably just not that smart of a move).

Another rumour that I heard today - when reading the Athletic, specifically Craig Morgan - is that the Coyotes may want to acquire Jason Zucker.

Morgan mentions Christian Dvorak as possibly going back the other way, but he poo-poos it saying that the Coyotes wouldn't want to trade a C for a W.

Now, I don't know if that is just what Morgan believes or if that's a real thing the Coyotes think.

Either way, they shouldn't think that.

A better player is a better player and it shouldn't matter what positions they play. Is an equally talented centre more valuable than an equally talented winger? Yes. But a C isn't so valuable that you should keep a worse player on your roster.

Dvorak is signed to the preposterously high AAV of $4.5 million in the hope that he improves as he ages and becomes a bargain after a couple years of inflation.

I applauded the contract for being a decent bet, but so far Dvorak - who did miss most of the year with an injury - has a career high of 37 points and will be entering his age 24 season - so there's a big chance that what you see is what you get.

If the Coyotes could actually swap Dvorak for Zucker they would be morons not to do it. And the only reason I even think it could happen is because Paul Fenton has been an absolutely brutal GM so far.

I don't throw the word Chiarelli-esque around often, but I will for that guy.

Jason Zucker is an awesome hockey player and the Coyotes should definitely trade for him.
If all it cost was Dvorak that would be one hell of a steal.
